KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 4 November, 2009: YTL Communications today announced the appointment of Wing K. Lee as Chief Executive Officer. A veteran of the wireless industry. Lee will lead deployment of nationwide WiMAX service in Malaysia.
Lee will oversee the deployment of nationwide 4G-service that will bring a high-fidelity Internet experience to the masses. In this capacity, he will be instrumental in advancing the company’s mission to provide affordable, world-class quality products and services that improve the way people in Malaysia learn, work and play.
“As YTL Communications’ promise of seamless nationwide broadband connectivity is now set to become a reality, we are delighted that Wing is coming on board to provide his expertise and leadership,” said YTL Group Managing Director Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, CBE, FICE. “With his nearly twenty years in wireless innovation and command of the latest global technologies, Wing is ideally suited to take the helm at YTL Communications during this exciting time.”
A pioneer in wireless technologies and specifically WiMAX, prior to joining YTL, Lee led next-generation mobile Internet device development at Clearwire. Earlier, he spent 15 years at Sprint Nextel, where he held senior management positions driving product development for the Company’s WiMAX division. He also founded and managed Sprint’s Technology Innovation Program, and led Enterprise Architecture for the launch of the first nationwide wireless data network in the U.S.
For his distinguished accomplishments, Lee received two of Sprint Nextel’s top honors – the Leadership Excellence Award (2005) and the Technology Leadership Award (2001). He also holds nine U.S. Patents and was recognized as the Asian American Engineer of the Year during the 2002 U.S. National Engineers Week.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, also holds an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
YTL Communications Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary and the communications utility of YTL Power International Berhad (YTL Power International). The Company is one of the four with licences from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to operate a 2.3 GHz WiMAX wireless broadband network in Malaysia and it intends to use this privilege to provide affordable, world-class services that improve the lives of people across Malaysia.
The company will make an announcement in Putrajaya at 11.45am on Tuesday, 10 November, in conjunction with the 12th MSC Malaysia International Advisory Panel Meeting.
